Also, for those who are NOT mentally ill but who have committed crimes, if we can move toward more of a restorative justice system and help people overcome some of what led to their life of crime, we could decrease recidivism. Jail/prison can be a place where people are locked up to lose their freedom for a time, and not just become better at being criminals.
