Just teach my kid the

“If all our assessments are about computation with speed, for which memorization without understanding is a good strategy for surviving, then we are hypocrites. Let’s be honest and true to our goals, even with testing.” Good read on math reform, but you have to read it all.

A Letter To Ally Parents, From Your Lesbian Friend

Love this. I only just recently started talking to my son about being interested (romantically) in any of his peers. And, thanks to time spent with kids in GSA at work, I’ve been careful to say “anyone” rather than “any girls.” And I outright told him it would be totally normal to start noticing people “in that way,” and female or male would be just fine. (But I didn’t always think or speak this way. I grew. Others can too. And I’m not done yet.)

In The Midst Of #MeToo, What Type Of Man Do You Want To Be?

“Right now, in the midst of this rising discussion around sexual abuse and assault, you — men — have the chance to look it all right in the face. You have the chance to look at the type of men you have been.”

If your service or emotional support animal is legit, you should have no problems providing the documentation they require. I hope this goes well and other airlines follow suit.

The Forgotten, Radical Martin Luther King Jr.

People who respond to Black Lives Matter with "all lives matter," and who slam Colin Kaepernick and other National Anthem protests, and then quote Dr. King with the same mouth clearly don't know what a radical he was. He pushed boundaries, challenged everything, and made many white people in his day uncomfortable. Today, it is my hope that people understand ALL that Dr. King stood for and apply his beliefs and his struggles to what we are witnessing in our country and in our world in the present. The man lost his life in the fight for peace and freedom for ALL. There are plenty of people right now in America who would hate him for his stances if they knew. I, personally, support the kind of radicalism that results in equality and peace for all.

TED

ADHD is different from autism in many ways. We found out our son’s autism diagnosis from evaluations aimed at determining if he had attention deficits. So they do also share a lot in common. The way people with autism have to learn to live in a world that doesn’t understand them is similar to how people with ADHD must adapt. If you know, teach, or have taught my son, please watch this. It’s very relatable to his situation with autism.
