Why half of the nation's new teachers can't leave the profession fast enough.

I don't even have to read it to tell you why people don't stay in teaching: 1. Everyone hates teachers and blames them for everything that is wrong with society. 2. Everyone hates change, so when education tries to change to mitigate what's wrong with society, everyone blames teachers, since they hate them anyway. 3. The pay sucks. 4. Your job depends on and can be dictated by your students' scores on biased tests that show nothing more than how well kids memorize and take tests. Oh, and they also reflect an accurate measure of socioeconomics, race, language, and other social factors that have zero to do with learning. 5. If a teacher tries to teach children, rather than a subject, he or she is criticized for butting in to kids' lives. 6. Since so many kids come ill-equipped and under-prepared to learn, teachers try to address urgent needs of their students, which they are not trained for. 7. All this happens in environments where teachers often receive no support at all, from administrators, school boards, or parents.
