Skipping School for Vacation: Good for Families, or Bad for Students?

As both a parent and an educator, I sometimes feel resentful when parents schedule trips to Disneyland during school and expect their children to be excused. But when it's a once-in-a-lifetime trip to another country or a last chance to see an ailing relative, who am I to judge?
