What Happens When We Push Students to the Next Level of Math Before They are Ready?

I'm quite happy to have my kid make a slow but steady ascent up the "math mountain" as we've come to call it. As long as he is farther up the mountain at the end of each school year, I'm happy. I'm much more concerned with that journey than the destination, and I don't care if he's the last one up.
