10 Emotional Abuse Tactics That Trump Blatantly Used in the First Debate
Some of you here on Facebook know my ex-husband. He is an emotionally abusive monster. I thought perhaps it was just me who was triggered by the Republican candidate's tactics. This article definitely makes me feel better about not being able to see, hear, or even have the name of the "bad guy" (as we call him in our home) spoken in my presence. The idea of him actually becoming President fills me with fear, of course. But what's worse, for me personally, is that there will be nowhere for me to hide.

I’m Losing Tons of Friends Fighting Racism. And I’m Totally OK with that.
I know I don't even do enough to fight racism and bigotry, but if what little I do causes me to lose people, they were never friends in the first place.

10 Simple Ways White People Can Step Up to Fight Everyday Racism
I'm willing to be made uncomfortable, admit and try to reject my privilege, and know that there's so much I don't and can't know. Why? Because if we all do that, we can begin to bring about real change. I've got kids at school I see every day who really need me (and all of us) to step up and do this.

The Real Reason White People Say 'All Lives Matter' | Huffington Post
"Dear fellow white people, we are in the middle of a second Civil Rights Movement. Most of us white people idealize Martin Luther King, Jr. and we like to think that we would have been on his side of things during the Civil Rights era. But the fact is that the majority of the American public did not support the Civil Rights movement while it was happening and only came to see King as a hero after he was killed."

An Open Letter to My Dad, who Makes Me Want to Quit Sports - Changing the Game Project
I have NOT experienced this sitting in the stands at Harker's football, basketball, volleyball, or soccer games. At least not from OUR parents. But there's probably some I'm not seeing. I've seen and heard opposing team's players and parents behave in these kinds of ways, towards OUR kids, and it breaks my heart and enrages me all at the same time. We can do better, parents.

So You Think You Should Respond to That Facebook Post About Race/Gender/Etc
"IF IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU, DON’T MAKE IT ABOUT YOU. IF IT IS ABOUT YOU, DO BETTER." Really good post. Long read, but worth it. It's all very good, but I found the part about attacking vs. challenging to be especially well put.

The lasting impact of white teachers who mispronounce minority student names
“Whether you intend to or not, what you’re communicating is this: Your name is different. Foreign. Weird. It’s not worth my time to get it right.” I always try to take a little extra time to make sure I'm pronouncing students' names correctly, even when they insist "it's okay" and want to move on. I ask what they want to be called, and I have them help me practice saying it. It's also really helpful to write on sub plans, next to the names in your roster, phonetic pronunciations of the names. Kids really appreciate when the sub can pronounce their names without even having to ask.

Why calling screentime 'digital heroin' is digital garbage
Yup. Highly irresponsible and not even close to proven. Because all screen time is not created equal. And also, parents could actually PARENT instead of using screens as babysitters. (This includes TV.)
